Here's a group in Reno Nevada with some inspirational ideas and practices that could be adapted for Fernwood (thanks to Richard Moore for this) -- e.g., see "get to know your neighbor week"

Hi Everyone:
Many of us imagine a world better than we have
today and are already working towards that in our
own lives. "Be the Change That You Want to See in
the World"--a common phrase attributed to Mahatma
Gandhi--has been used to describe this individual
attitude.
What if there was a much larger dimension of
reality that we could experience and participate
in? Be the Community You Want to See in the World
captures this spirit.
We are wired for relationship. We are relational
beings. People desire connection to something
greater than themselves and to connect with each
other. Our institutional arrangements sometimes
can make this difficult so the Spirit impels us
to seek authentic relations with others in
creative ways. This could be why there are so
many grass roots groups springing up everywhere,
all over the planet---trying to build community.
How can we be the Community we want to see in the
future? Let's live it right now and not wait for
anyone else to start or for the "system" to
change. The Conscious Community Network is a
humble attempt to form this kind of "intentional
community" across the usual boundaries that we
might separate into. We can live this new society
right now by demonstrating the highest virtues
that we can imagine and by being of service to
others, especially to those who are working to
make a better world
The CCN is an informal networking approach and
not a separate organization from the community.
In fact, our action is to "Connect the Good" and
cultivate these kind of authentic relationships
not just with a particular "in group" but
community-wide. We do this to Be the Community
that We Want to See in the World and not to
impose any change on the world. And this is
actually one key to changing the world--to
practice unconditional regard for all in a spirit
of service and fellowship.
Check out the various practical ways to plug in.
