Fernwood Wisdom Council -- Invitations on the Way!

The volunteer organizers of the Fernwood Wisdom Council were busy on Saturday morning preparing invitations to go out to randomly selected residents. Most of the envelopes will be hand delivered over the next few days, during the week of February 11 to 17, 2008.
The Wisdom Council will be held Fri evening, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th.
If you are one of the lucky few who receive an invitation PLEASE take advantage of this opportunity to participate in a grassroots revitalization of democracy! You may have heard this before - this time it is true -- you HAVE been randomly selected from thousands of names! This is an opportunity for you to put Fernwood at the forefront of democratic renewal -- keen eyes are watching our project from afar, including Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, San Francisco...

I have not encountered anyone in Fernwood that has received an invitation to your council. Have you sent out your invitations? Also, by what reckoning is your process random? How do you select randomly from everyone in Fernwood? I have noticed numerous postings as I walk around, and one of your posters is even visible outside my bedroom window!

Hi Jordan - thanks for your excellent questions. We sent out or hand delivered 200 invitations to Fernwood households in the past week or so. We've only had a few returned by Canada Post as undeliverable.
The random selection process was as rigorous as we could make it:
1. The approx. 4,000 households in Fernwood were carefully numbered using a map.
2. A statistically valid set of random numbers was generated on the computer.
3. We selected 200 households based on correlation with the first 200 random numbers.
4. Each of these 200 households received an invitation.
Great to hear that the sign is visible -- we're hoping to create some excitement around the first ever Fernwood Wisdom Council. The random selection process is key in trying to represent the concerns and aspirations of ALL Fernwood residents, not just those with right connections or the biggest wallets.

Well, I looked through my old mail, and I found an invite... unfortunately it is from the 2007 Wisdom Counsil... doh!
