The Fernwood Commons

Thousands of people in poor countries solar cook. It saves them money, it puts food in their bellys and it saves the trees in their neighbourhoods from early death by fire.
Almost nobody is doing low tech solar research.
Not here, not there either.
Because it is not "sexy". Low tech research will never get funded.
Poor people are not a viable market in the "holy free market" world we live in, and they do not have the training or resources to do this research themselves.
So if low tech research is going to take place, it will be voluntary and it will be here in the rich world.
Anyone want to join in?
I have some skills but nothing compared to what a group has to offer.
It can be as simple as taking a clock apart, attaching a wheel and tieing weights to it.
Or just making a sweet allweather turntable for solar cookers!
Or you might be a social person with a south facing area suitable for "cookoffs" between different designs!
Or if you have skills in mathematics, you can research combined troughs for solar cookers, the "kyoto trough" concept and maybe even derive a "kyoto dish" from it!
http://kmr.nada.kth.se/wiki/Main/PointFocus is very similar to the kyoto trough concept for the mathematically inclined among you!
Lots to be done. Lets divide up the task and achieve!
