Poor people round the world need better solar cookers as an alternative to burning down their forests for firewood. Carbon offsets are now being used to pay for the manefacture and even the use! of parabolic reflective solar cookers in poor countrys.
But parabolic is crap because you have to readjust it every 15 or 20 minutes! Why not design a dish the leaves the sunlight on the cooking pot for 2 hours? That way, you do not need to stay in the hot sun and get "flashed" in the eyes by the dish every so often.
Most people seem to leave it to for profit organizations to do solar design. And for that reason the "Parabolic dish" reflector has remained unchanged in 30 years. Also, perhaps people think that they are not smart enough or trained enough to contribute. It would seem that non profit organizations are incumbered by great inertia too. Very very very few actually design anything.
In a couple of years, I have made several useful contributions to large solar cooking sites.
Part of one of my videos (and it is poorly made) even plays on the trams in zurich.
So what about you? Where are you? You can do it too. Design can be bottom up if you just go do it. Brian
